School History
Stratford Music was originally a vintage guitar shop / coffee lounge in The Entrance, run by Chris Stratford and family members in 2006.
Madeline frequented the shop and soon became their piano tutor.
Unfortunately after a while the shop had to close down, but Madeline and Chris remained together and taught from home. In July 2011 they purchased the Woy Woy School of Music.
For over 8 years the Woy Woy School of Music has undergone many adjustments, including changing its name, locations and owners.
One of the biggest changes however, has happened under the direction of the current owners – Chris & Madeline Stratford. In 2016, the original rented school building was sold, where the new landlords plans were to demolish the Woy Woy School of Music to make way for their renovations.
After months of scouting and research, Chris and Madeline found a new home for music on the Peninsula right on the main road of Woy Woy. The new premises is more than twice the size of their previous location and paves the way for the schools continued growth. From 2011 to 2016, student numbers grew from just 38 to 180.
“Over the years, a strong community presence has developed within our student and tutor base. Our vision for the next school is to build on that by creating a new home for music on the Central Coast.” – Chris Stratford
Being a family owned school, The Woy Woy School of Music changed its name to STRATFORD MUSIC, and is now located in the heart of Woy Woy on Blackwall Rd. Owners Chris & Madeline Stratford hand built and designed the school in just 6 weeks with the support of their families, students and local community. Local businesses Central Coast Limousines; and Away For A Day Minibus Hire & Tours even sponsored part of the move.
Stratford Music holds sizeable tuition rooms as well as a large space for ensembles and a dedicated band room. Intricate murals adorn the school walls, and the foyer is embellished by Chris’ hand-made furniture.
“We wanted to create a place that was homely but also unique. We’ve designed the new school to offer the highest standard of tuition whilst still being a comfortable place that students of all ages will enjoy visiting.” – Madeline Stratford
